How Can Mammography Help Me?

As your breasts change over time, specific issues or conditions can also arise. For example, you may have found a lump in your breast or are concerned about a family history of cancer. Fortunately, our health professionals can help you catch issues like these early.

Your women’s healthcare provider can answer any questions or concerns you have about your breast health. By using mammography our technicians can look for any signs of cancer or other issues. Annual mammograms can help determine whether your results are typical or whether you may need further testing and diagnosis. These screenings allow you and your provider to act quickly to help avoid potentially severe issues.

When Should I Get a Mammogram?

Generally, checking your breasts regularly, in addition to yearly appointments for significant changes, can help you avoid serious issues in the future. For example, your ObGyn may recommend performing a self-examination every few months for changes in your breast tissue. In addition, yearly clinical breast exams are done by your provider, to help check for any changes or abnormalities.

Annual mammograms begin later, typically at age 40. However, if your family has a history of breast cancer at an early age, your doctor may suggest receiving a mammogram earlier. Speak to your provider about your health concerns as mammograms can help spot issues now, before the problem is more serious, meaning less invasive treatment options.

Our Mammography Services

One significant difference you may need to note when seeking mammography services is the different types of mammograms. For example, if you are looking for preventative care, you may need a screening mammogram. While both types of mammograms use the same machines, screening mammograms are a preventive measure to detect tumors that a physical screening may miss.

A diagnostic mammogram is used to help diagnose lumps or other signs of breast cancer found during a screening mammogram or a physical screening. When specific symptoms of breast cancer arise, a diagnostic mammogram can give information about changes in your breasts that may have been found during other screenings. In either case, our facilities use 2D and 3D technology for the clearest possible images that your provider will use for prevention and early detection of breast issues.
