About Mary A. Burns, MD, FACOG, FPMRS
Dr. Mary Antoinette Burns has had the privilege of practicing Urogynecology in Virginia Beach for many years. She was the first fellowship trained Urogynecologist and among the first to be board certified in Female Pelvic Floor and Reconstructive Surgery in Hampon Roads.
She is an expert in treating women with pelvic organ prolapse, urinary incontinence, and other disorders of the urogenital system. Her areas of interest include surgical management of urinary incontinence with suburethral slings and bulking procedures, robotic surgery for pelvic organ prolapse and various treatments of Overactive Bladder such as Neuromodulation and Botox injections.
Over 50 million American women suffer from bladder leakage. Unfortunately, less than half will seek treatment. There are various excellent treatment options available – both surgical and nonsurgical. Dr. Burns is a referral source for many family doctors and gynecologists in the Tidewater area as well as North Carolina. Educating women that this is a treatable condition is her professional goal!
Being part of an excellent healthcare team, allows Dr. Burns freedom to enjoy her free time. Dr. Burns is married to Dr. Matthew Mitsch, and she is a mother of two adult children. She enjoys traveling, country line dancing, singing in choir and spending time with her family.
