About Barbara Kersey, PhD, Mental Health Counselor
Barbara Kersey, PhD, joined The Group for Women in 1986. With her addition to the team, The Group for Women was – and still is – the only OB/GYN practice in Tidewater to have a full time marriage and family therapist on staff. (For more information about this venture, see The Marriage of Mental Health and Medicine: Practice Success.) Dr. Kersey received her Ph.D. from Virginia Tech and completed an externship in family therapy at the Eastern Virginia Family Therapy Institute. She is a Clinical Member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists.
In addition to her practice at The Group For Women, Dr. Kersey currently serves as a consultant to the Jones Institute for Reproductive Medicine. Her areas of expertise include postpartum depression, adjustment to parenting, couples counseling, grief counseling and infertility. (To read more about Dr. Kersey’s work with infertile couples, see The Emotional Roller Coaster Ride of Infertility.)
